My ELA teacher was SO passive aggressive to me today >:(
Context:In my ELA class we recently started a project where we have to write an argumentative essay with evidence that we research on the internet. Our teacher wanted us to write our claims first and then write out the line of reasoning. I’ve been having a tough time understanding what he wanted from me, surrounding the claim, because I’ve asked him so many questions before such as “how obvious can our claim be” and he says “sometimes you have to state the obvious” and then when I write an obvious claim he says its not complex enough. Our class has like 30 students and he spent a lot of class time conferencing with other kids about their claims. It’s irritating that I have to keep revising my claim, or creating new claims because it’s not meeting his expectations. So on Wednesday, after class I have a chat with him and ask him if I can email him my claim that I had written (at this point this was like my fourth time writing one) and I am a little annoyed in my tone because I just want to get this claim over with, so that I can work on actually getting evidence and writing my line of reasoning. I’ve asked him to look at my claim at least like 3 times at this point.
So today (with the help of my friend who’s really good at essays and stuff), I present my new claim which he accepts and I apologize for sounding irritated on Wednesday (bc it was lowk on my mind and as juniors we are expected to ask our ELA teacher for college recc letters so I kinda have to be on his good side) to which he says “it’s fine, and can i just give my pov on this… i don’t want to make any sweeping generalizations but it seems like this generation needs to have their hand held too much and sit around while they wait for the answer”. WHAT THE FUCK. MIND YOU THE ONLY REASON IM PERSISTENT IN ASKING ABT THIS SHIT IS BECAUSE ITS OBJECTIVE BASED AS TO WHAT YOU DEEM AS “GOOD”. LIKE IF THIS WAS A MATH CLASS OR PHYSICS CLASS THEN NO I DONT NEED MY HAND HELD BY THE TEACHER ILL FIGURE IT OUT ON MY OWN EVENTUALLY BUT BRO TS IS BASED ON UR OPINION. And what makes me so god damn upset is that he said it so passive aggressively. I lowk sat there for a good second and felt so humiliated and embarrassed by what he said bc he basically called me a crybaby who can’t do shit (he was whispering it to me but like my class could def hear everything). I don’t even know how to feel about this like I can’t tell if I should respect his words or not cuz i’m so like emotionally charged by what he said.
