How are small service businesses reducing appointment no-shows without hiring more staff?

One thing I never realized until talking to a few local clinics is how much admin work goes into reducing no-shows.

I used to assume appointment reminders were fully automated everywhere already, but apparently a lot of smaller clinics still handle confirmations manually when things get busy.

Owners here, has no-show management gotten worse over the last few years, or is it about the same as before?
