Blue Ridge unit not cooling
So we built an addition onto my parents home because when we sold our house and moved closer to take care of them, this seemed like a logical thing to do. My dad is still very capable and handy so he installed it with my husband‘s help, but he put the unit in the attic so all of our pipes get the heat of the day in the attic. If I’m not mistaken, our thermostat is also in the attic which poses problems so we have to use follow me and go from the remote sensor which if you have a blue Ridge unit you know after a few hours follow me stop working. We have a wall thermostat and part of the unit is just outside one of our windows.-I’m sorry I don’t know all of the names for the different parts of it. I also believe we did a 3 ton unit for about 800 ft.². My dad just checked and refilled the Freon. He said it only needed 2 pounds but I also suspect isn’t horrible after 3 1/2 years and I run it year-round. I do my best to keep everything shut up during the day once our area has cooled at night but more often or not even super hot days. It’s getting 70° plus and it will not cool below that to the 67° we sleep at. Anyone have any advice? Attic fan? Move the thermostat and is it possible to replace with a regular heat pump Thermostat? Insulate the pipes some more? This unit has to work extra hard with it being in the attic and if I had it to do over again, it would be in the subfloor with floor vents, but what’s done is done-thanks 😊
