My foster kitten Thumbelina, approximately 6 hours after her spay

Vet: be sure to keep her calm for the next 24-48 hours, no climbing/jumping/roughhousing.

Thumbelina: no 🫶🏼

(she’s totally fine — this pic was taken after she had already managed to climb the screen, squeeze herself out of the few inch opening where I hadn’t fully closed the zipper, and launch herself at my resident cat. I put her back inside the foster room and tried to sit with her to calm her down, and instead she demonstrated just how she had done it the first time. She was a handful! She was adopted and is currently serving chaos at home with her forever family.)

Smol tort with extra beans

My current foster kitten has beans to spare - 22 beans in total, by my count, with an extra on each foot both front and back. Extra beans and extra tortitude with this one! 🌶️

My first bottle babies

2 tiny tabbies, very smol and full of rage. According to their finder they were born on Sunday night and Mom disappeared soon afterwards. Finder kept an eye out for Mom to return before eventually surrendering them to the rescue yesterday. We are full to bursting with kittens (in addition to these guys I have a 9-month-old mama kitty drying out before her spay in my foster room right now) but I couldn’t say no. I’ve taken a bottle babies course and watched allllll the Kitten Lady videos, and I have a great team of experienced neonate fosters that I can contact through the rescue, but it’s definitely a lot!

I’m trying to keep my expectations reasonable knowing the survival rate of orphaned kittens even with human intervention, and knowing that Mom may have intentionally abandoned them suggests they may have underlying health issues. That said, I’m settling in for a few weeks of no sleep in hopes we can save these guys. Wish us luck! 😻

Is there any better feeling than when a tiny spicy feral finally trusts you? 🥹

Y’all, I’m sobbing (quietly) 😭 This guy and his sister came to me 3 weeks ago from another foster. I honestly thought they might never turn the corner — they were just SO fearful of humans. When I wrote his adoption bio, I noted that he might never be a cuddly kitty and would need a home where his independence would be seen as a feature, not a bug. Basically, buyer beware — don’t adopt this cat expecting to get a lap cat. 🙃

Imagine my surprise this morning coming in to the foster room to discover that not only did he not hide when the door opened, but after several walkthrough passes to confirm suitability, he happily settled himself down in my lap for purrs and naps.

My foot is asleep and I need a refill on my coffee but you better believe I’m not moving!

I’m so proud of him 🥹
