Day 1 Post-Op. Not what I expected.
I got my Achilles surgery yesterday at 8AM (33M) and nerve blocker is going away, so it’s starting to get real. I’ve been reading this community since I tore my Achilles on May 9th about 2 weeks ago, so I’m thankful for everyone here and wanted to ask some questions.
First of all - I thought I’d be able to do some type of workouts day 2-5 like I’ve seen and heard some people doing, but the absolute pressure in my heel and ankle when it’s not elevated is alarming and I don’t know how anyone even does it yet. I am extremely active - Jiu Jitsu brown belt, active 6 days out of the week with one of those days being an active rest day. Been doing martial arts my whole life and lifting since high school.
How the heck did you guys even get a light workout in?
Some people do fire hydrants or bird dog. My foot feel likes it’s going to fall off - how?? Haha
My doc and surgeon didn’t recommend baby aspirin. Is that needed? Just ordered Tylenol and advil because I want to ween off of the pain meds asap
Trying to find a comfortable way to lay my leg on this knee wedge pillow seems impossible - any angle still doesn’t feel great.
should I ice behind my knee this early or is that gonna slow the blood flow down for healing?
any helpful advice or tips is greatly appreciated!
I’m thankful the recovery has started though. I’m mentally strong and not going to give up ever, but man did that nerve blocker really help 🥲😂
