Got diagnosed as type 1 after 10 years of misdiagnosis. Don’t know how to feel about it
10 years ago when I was 16 I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Which didn’t make sense at the time (I was an avid dancer 6 days a week) (weighed between 170-180 lbs) and my diet was pretty strict as I also had an ED that was fueled by the diagnosis.
Skip ahead to now my doctor tells me that my diagnosis is being changed to type 1. On one hand I feel vindicated that I now know the diabetes wasn’t “my fault” (stigma from having type 2 diabetes hit me hard since I got made fun of for it by my family).
But on the other now I know I can’t reverse the diagnosis which leaves me a bit dejected because that has been my goal for 10 years.
I don’t know I’m just coming to terms with my late diagnosis now I guess lol.
