Strasbourg or Sorbonne for physical chemistry and materials chemistry?
Hello everyone,
I’m currently hesitating between Université de Strasbourg and Sorbonne Université for a master’s degree in chemistry.
My main interests are physical chemistry, materials science, nanomaterials for energy applications, as well as modeling and simulation. My long-term goal is to continue into a PhD and later work in industrial R&D/research within a large international company in Europe.
Strasbourg seems very strong in CNRS-related research and appears to offer a more specialized path in materials science and physical chemistry from the beginning. If I choose Strasbourg, I think I would like to join Institut de Physique et Chimie des Matériaux de Strasbourg.
Sorbonne seems to provide an excellent network and broader opportunities thanks to the <Paris> environment. I’m also very interested in the PCMAT track because of its physics-oriented approach to materials science. If I choose Sorbonne, I would probably like to join the Laboratoire de Chimie de la Matière Condensée de Paris.
What matters most to me is the quality of the training and long-term scientific development rather than prestige alone. Above all, I want to build strong and practical research skills, especially in modeling, simulation, and scientific tools, in order to become a solid researcher both technically and scientifically.
If you were in my position, which one would you choose and why? Thank you so much :)
