Grew up with 'food as medicine' — sharing a few traditional Chinese sleep remedies my family actually uses

Not a doctor, just someone who grew up watching my grandmother treat food like the first line of defense before anything else. A few things that were staples in our house when someone couldn't sleep:

  1. Sour jujube seed tea — one of the most well-known ingredients in Chinese herbal tradition for calming the mind. Available at most Asian grocery stores or online (look for 'suan zao ren').
  2. Longan + red date soup — a warm, slightly sweet drink, more of a nightly ritual than a 'fix.' Both ingredients are easy to find at Trader Joe's or H-Mart.
  3. Warm milk with goji berries — simple, and goji berries are everywhere now (even Whole Foods carries them).

None of this replaces actual medical care if you have chronic insomnia — just sharing what's been part of my family's routine for a long time. Curious if anyone else grew up with similar 'food as medicine' habits, Chinese or otherwise?I'm slowly putting together a small notebook with more of these (digestion, energy, women's wellness) — sharing it here if anyone wants it: https://wild-cold-3fa.notion.site/Traditional-Food-Remedies-Sleep-Guide-3c1cfdf7134a805c8c8be3b96bb764db
