What’s the most “this is fucking stupid” problem you deal with at work?

What’s a process, task, or annoying problem you deal with that makes you think:

Could be anything, big or small. Just curious what other people deal with.

Thinking about moving from Private Client Advisory into Turnaround & Restructuring – looking for insights

Hey all,

I'm currently working in Private Client Advisory for 8 months now at a mid-sized accounting firm and lately I've been considering a move into the Turnaround & Restructuring space.

I've noticed quite a few job postings on LinkedIn from firms such as A&M, FTI, and the Big 4 restructuring teams (rather than traditional insolvency firms), and the work sounds interesting. However, I don't really know much about what the day-to-day actually looks like.

For those who work in turnaround and restructuring, I'd appreciate any insights:

  • Who are your typical clients?
  • What does your day-to-day work involve?
  • How much of the role is financial modelling? I'm reasonably comfortable with modelling but definitely not an expert.
  • Is the work heavily administrative, or is it more analytical/problem-solving focused?
  • How much strategy work is actually involved in turnaround and restructuring engagements?
  • How does the pay compare with Audit or Private Client Advisory?
  • What are the typical exit opportunities?

Longer term, I'd like to move into corporate finance-related work such as transaction services, due diligence, valuations, or potentially M&A. From that perspective, would a move into restructuring be beneficial, or would I be better off staying in Private Client Advisory and trying to transition directly into corporate finance later?

Would love to hear from anyone who has worked in the space.

Thanks in advance!
