Is it possible to shift from Audit to Accounting with no accounting experience?
Hi everyone! Just wanted to ask for insights from people who successfully transitioned from audit to accounting.
Background:
Former Big 4 auditor in the PH
Currently working remotely as an EBP Auditor for a US firm
Lately, I’ve been thinking of changing my career path and moving into accounting/bookkeeping roles instead of staying in audit long-term. The problem is, I don’t really have direct accounting experience (month-end closing, journal entries, bookkeeping systems, etc.).
I know audit and accounting are related, but I’m honestly worried companies might still prefer candidates with actual accounting experience.
Questions:
Is shifting from audit to accounting a common thing?
Are there companies willing to accept someone with audit experience but no direct accounting background?
What accounting roles should I start applying for?
Any tips or skills/software I should learn first (QuickBooks, Xero, etc.)?
Would really appreciate hearing your experiences or advice. Thank you! 🙏
