It’s clear that almost all (?) hifi gear can be deemed ‘vintage’ according to some criteria; performance, ‘sound’, looks and design, etc. all of which fuel the second hand market. However what of DACs ? Is vintage much less applicable to them ? I’m asking faced w two on offer second hand but one 2 years old and one 16 years old; namely the SMSL SU X and the Wyrd 4 Sound DAC 2v2 both sporting similar but not equal outputs, and both high end (?) at least on release. So what to choose ? Setting aside any concern w vintage as an aesthetic/look, they differ greatly on that but what of sound and ‘bang for buck’ ?
