Sales with a Mechanical Engineering degree
I’m graduating with my mechanical engineering degree this fall and have been thinking a lot about career paths.
I really enjoy the technical/problem-solving side of engineering, but I’m also a huge people person. I’m very outgoing, relatable, and genuinely enjoy talking to people/building relationships. Because of that, I keep coming back to the idea of technical sales—especially heavy equipment or industrial/mechanical equipment sales.
For people in the industry: am I actually setting myself up well for something like this, or do a lot of people think they’d be good at sales and reality is different? I don’t know if I’m being confident or just have a big ego here.
Would love to hear from engineers who moved into sales or anyone in industrial/heavy equipment sales.
