Confused about a necklace that has been in my family for generations

I’ve been gifted a pearl necklace that has been passed down in the family. I think it originally belonged to my great-great-grandmother (my mum can’t remember how far it goes back in the family).

The lock of the necklace has an EF or FF incision followed by the number 765. When I saw the necklace, I expected to see a 925 inscription just from the colour, but I know nothing about antique jewellery. I know the number 765 should indicate 18K gold. The usual shape that I’m used to seeing on gold stamps does not surround the number, and (with the risk of sounding stupid) the colour is not gold. Do you think it’s just not the right stamp? I’m a bit confused!
