No "widespread" pain = no fibro, right?
So I (f, 42, based in the UK) went to see a rheumatologist after suffering with a myriad of symptoms for several years. I wanted to rule out EDS (done), get confirmation of hypermobility syndrome (done) and maybe get an MCAS diagnosis (turns out it's for an immunologist to diagnose, am getting referred). Then came the plot twist: the rheumatologist said I might could perhaps maybe have fibromyalgia.
I was stunned - I knew a little about the condition, but never even considered it because I didn't think I was in enough pain.
I've had chronic back pain and spasm "episodes" for nearly 3 years, and I had a random flare up of pain in both thumb joints 18 months ago (it passed). I've also had more MRIs than I can count - for plantar fasciitis, sacroiliac pain, meniscus tears in both knees, labrum tear in one hip (as well as arthritis). But all those seem to have reasons /causes - except the thumbs and back, we never found causes for those.
In any case, I wouldn't call this "widespread" pain, so I struggle with the idea that I might have fibro.
Sure I have other symptoms - terrible fatigue and brain fog (which I put down to ADHD and perimenopause), digestive issues, bladder issues, headaches and migraines, pins and needles in my hands at night, being extremely stiff after every sit down or lay down etc. But my lack of widespread pain makes me doubt the rheumatologist's potential diagnosis.
I'm having blood tests next before I see her again, but in the meantime I don't know how to feel. Any thoughts, advice, sharing of experience would be greatly appreciated.
