STN on acropora
This issue started 2+ months ago as small dead spots on random branches. There must have been some stressor event that I’m unaware of. It grew wonderfully for about a year, and I’m pretty sure the tips are still growing as the inside dies. The stylo next to it is also affected. IMO it’s probably a bacterial or fungal infection.
Something I always try to impart on new reefers is the very difficult practice of not overreacting. I noticed the problem early on, took a couple healthy clippings, sat back and observed. Colonies have recovered on their own from similar problems in the past. Often times trying to fix a problem can cause more harm. If the rest of the tank is fat and happy, and params are in line, then usually the best medicine is nothing at all.
I just thought I’d share. Even successful reef tanks aren’t all rainbows and unicorns, despite what you see on the internet.
