1 YPO Replens?
I’m a little over one year post-op from a total hysterectomy (kept ovaries) and I’m still very happy and grateful I had the surgery.
Side effects or body changes after recovery have been very minimal, but over the last month or two I’ve noticed I’m dryer than usual when we get started in the bedroom. I don’t notice it any other time. My doctor wants me to try a non-hormonal moisturizer before estrogen cream and he recommended Replens.
Has anyone tried Replens? What was your experience and did it help? There are a lot of positive reviews but there are also a lot of women complaining that it gave them dark brown discharge. The instructions warn this can happen, it says it’s a normal reaction to the moisturizer and means it working. Apparently it’s “shedding” of the dead dry tissue revealing fresh tissue underneath. Sounds gross and not sexy but if it works then maybe it’s worth it? If you had the brown discharge, how bad was it and how long did it last? Did you abstain from sex until it stopped?
I’m also curious how many of you noticed new dryness 1+ year post-op if you kept your ovaries. I’m 36 and haven’t had any hot flashes so my doctor said it’s unlikely that it’s related to perimenopause or ovarian failure. He said he would check my hormone levels if the cream doesn’t help. I know lube is an option but I prefer to fix the root of the problem. Thanks in advance!
