I’m fish sitting help pls (I think it may be fin rot?)

Hi so I’m taking care of my roomates fish Gerald while she’s gone for the summer and we recently moved him from the bowl she had him in to a 3.5 gal tank. Water parameters are WNL and have been stable since we put him in about 2 weeks ago. Last week I noticed some black dots on his tail; a couple days ago it looked like it was falling apart; and today it looks like some has actually fallen off??? What I noticed today is in the images. You can kinda see some of the dots at the end of the tail in the last pic.
He’s acting completely normal; eating, swimming around, etc, but his tail looks completely different that when we put him in the tank … my roomie is gonna kill me if I fuck up her fish… help
