I took this shot when Ryan came out to the crowd during Jesus Wept in Denver last year.

No one tells you that it's the last ground ball. No one tells you that you won't walk to the plate ever again. No one tells you that the laughs from the dugout will fade. No one tells you that your friends go away. No one tells you that childhood comes to an abrupt end.

I took a photo today. An abandoned dugout. The bases with their rusted posts placed on the bench. The grass and weeds had grown up all around it. There were no laughs. No cheers. No echoes of the snap of the catchers mit against a perfectly placed pitch. Nothing. Just weeds, an empty bench, and a wave of nostalgia. Memories.

My mind took the empty space on the splintered wood. I could picture the bright uniforms against the green grass. I could smell the pretzels and nachos. I could see my brother and sister running around outside the field, laughing. I could hear Mrs. Benker screaming, cheering as loud as she could at her son at the plate. I saw my Mom in the crowd. She smiled as I looked back.

A passing vehicle snapped me back. The silence returned. The weeds were still there. The wood was still splintered. The old base posts were still rusting on the bench.

I stood for a fleeting moment, taking in the field one last time. Then I got back in my car to call my wife.

Probably over a hundred games and not a single grim. Didnt expect this at all.

I thought this was going to be impossible to find. Found it on my 2nd game after the update. Its either more common than I was expecting, or I got super lucky. Still haven't found a single grim or zero point in game.. ​
