Event planners: what’s one lesson you wish you’d learned before hosting networking events?

I’m interested in learning from people who’ve organised professional networking events.
Looking back, what’s one lesson you wish you’d known before hosting your first few events?

It could be about: attendee experience, venues, sponsors, ticket sales, timing, logistics, encouraging people to actually network or something completely unexpected.

I’m interested in hearing the things you only learn through experience.

What makes a networking event genuinely worth attending?

I’ve attended quite a few networking events over the past couple of years, and I’ve noticed the experience can vary massively.

Some events leave you wanting to come back, while others are completely forgettable.

I’m curious:

What’s the one thing that makes a networking event genuinely worth your time?

And on the flip side, what’s one thing that consistently puts you off?

I’d love to hear your experiences, whether you’re a regular attendee, a host, or someone who avoids networking events altogether.
