Pre-employment checks. Potentially dodgy previous employer?

I finally got an update about a Fraud Investigator Apprenticeship I interviewed for aaages ago with the DWP. Got a provisional offer and now I just have to complete my pre-employment checks. I could cry, I'm so happy 🥹

Apparently they were having delays with their review process, so it took way longer than expected. I genuinely wasn't expecting to hear back at this point, let alone to get a positive result. I was worried I had done terribly in the interview stage because they were so quiet, and just taking notes the entire time (I get that's what they do, but it was just so different to what I'm used to with interviews lol). My adrenaline has been through the roof for the last hour or so.

I'm currently doing my references and work history from the last three years. I decided to check my HMRC to make sure my employment dates were correct, when I noticed that one of my previous jobs hasn't shown up on my tax records for some reason. Kinda suspicious because my boss at the time said my paychecks looked so low because of tax deductions, but I never did manage to get a payslip document out of that guy. In hindsight I should've checked HMRC at the time, but tbh I just had bigger problems on my plate than a slightly lower-than-expected paycheck. My recent jobs haven't required references either, so I've had even less reason to check until now.

I'm genuinely worried my ex-boss committed tax fraud (which does kinda make me chuckle given the job I'm currently trying to get). I was gonna get a reference from that guy too, and now I'm just feeling super anxious. Is this gonna negatively impact my pre-employment checks?

My two other references should be sound, but I'm considering using my current temp job as one instead. Would that be better? Are temp jobs even okay to use for references? Genuine questions; apologies if they seem silly.

Something doesn't seem right here. Employer not offering contract until probation is completed.

Got a message this morning with an offer of employment for an admin apprenticeship, but I only have until tomorrow to accept. I asked for an employment contract or particulars, and they refused, stating they would only provide a contract after the 3 month probation is completed.

Tbh I have a job at the moment, and I got some red flags from the interview process, so it was unlikely I would be accepting this role to begin with, but I still wanted to think it through properly before I made any decision.

This is an apprenticeship, so it seems really strange that no contract or agreement is being given, but I've never done one before so I would appreciate any advice.

Been applying for jobs, and got a call to book an appointment for an interview, even though I only applied like last night.

The only issue is that I can't seem to find much about what the business actually does. They also seem to be going by two different business names (very confusing because I didn't recognise the business name when they said it over the phone lol). Their name on Indeed was "Sky Promotions Ltd." and their name in emails and on social media is "Choice Marketing".

My gauge for scam jobs is pretty bad, so I just wanted to ask before I potentially waste my time and money going to this interview several towns over. It seems a little odd that they pay weekly, but idk if that's normal for some places. If anyone has any experience with this place, or businesses similar to this, please let me know lol.

Edit: Did a little more research, and found several VERY similarly (almost identically) worded job listings from other vague companies with very little online presence. Went down a little rabbit hole, and I'm pretty sure this company is part of a network of "devilcorps." Looks like it'd be purely commission-based pay and a lot of weird door-door sales. Safe to say I'll be avoiding this one haha
