I wonder if God put people in wrong countries sometimes
I am a South Korean Citizen, and this year is my 6th year in the U.S. as a student (F-1 Visa), studying Aerospace Engineering at a certain rather well-known Midwestern University. This was my first semester back (spring) after my service in the ROK Army, where I served in a Recon battallion at a certain frontal Division... but I won't elucidate further on this since it's not of direct relevence.
Anyways, about a week ago, I was in the library when I oversaw two girls tittering and expressing disapproval at a video of this one guy who held around posters that had pro-life illustrations on it and were quietly dicussing how they despised republican men like him.. and sure, I was a little taken aback, but people are entitled to their own opinions. Then the conversation pivoted to their disapproval of Trump's "invasion" of Iran, which was fine, still, since I don't necessarily think it was a perfect operation either. Then it came to the crux... a sort of denouement so to speak..., they started to discuss how Capitalism was a failure and how stuff like Socialist countries being bad to live in (e.g. Cuba, China, Venezuela, and N. Korea!) was a CIA propaganda. I honestly can't tell if they were joking but they sounded pretty serious. now by this point I was fuming.
I regularly operated in and out of the DMZ between North and South Korea, and sometimes even saw first-hand the stuff these emaciated, sallow North Koreans were doing to get by the harsh winter... I even once saw a group of four or five of them skidaddling around with a stick to catch a goat of some sort... they undercooked it out of haste, and fell ill... and mind you these are the well supplied ones of the Northern ones aside from higher-ups and the ones near Pyeongyang, their capital, since it's the front lines... (the front lines require best looking, well-supplied troops since it's the first line of defense, and they were gaunt unlike our stout ones)
I spent the last six years trying to figure out all sorts of schemes and opportunities to become a citizen of this country that I love, having countless sleepless nights over my future and having to give up my dreams as an Aerospace Engineer for being a non-US person, having to intern back in Korea (ITAR, iykyk)... My biggest dream is to be a U.S. Citizen. And here were these two girls at a public university of a Conservative state, enjoying benefits of Capitalism, praising Socialism and trying to write off first hand experiences of people who either escaped or witnessed socialism as Mossad/CIA propaganda, not knowing Capitalism literally saved our country (korea) from being poorer than Uganda to a global superpower..
I spend the past few days recalling this conversation pondering... I am as christian as they come, but sometimes I truly wonder if God does make mistakes, putting people in wrong nations.. or is it an opportunity for lessons on my part? I can't tell, for now...
