55 feet in Beaumont clay
Back in 2020 I was excavating a pond on my property with a Caterpillar 420D. The machine was fully down in the excavation with the boom extended almost straight downward, pulling up deep material. After spreading the spoil out, I started noticing unusual calcium/mineral rock formations mixed into the clay.
Years later, after realizing there may be an old Native American site or burial area on the property, I went back and took a much closer look at the nodules and stones that came out of that excavation.
Some of these pieces appear heavily mineralized, weathered, and unusually shaped. I cleaned one of them up and it appears to be almost entirely solid quartz crystal.
I’m trying to understand what exactly I’m looking at here geologically and whether these formations are natural mineral concretions, fossil-related material, or possibly associated with long-term human activity on the site. I have way more pictures
