Film society progamming
Im a part of my university's film society and we are planning next sems screeenings.
I would like ti ask if we should recommend based on the what the members want to watch or curate it based on their tastes and we pick the films.
I wiuld like to do the latter since i feel like members are going to choose whats most recognisable if we do a google forms and geve them options or a text field.
The other committee like bigger and campy films, which Im not the biggest fan of now. I was when I was a kid but not really anymore. Unless its a kids movie thatnadults can also resonate with im tots fine, like my life as a zuchini or pixars earlier work etc.
They recommended speed racer as the opener, which i didnt have much of a say in, a small group kind of just chose it without consulting with the other committee members. They also recommended despicable me 2 but i just turned that down, thought it was ridculous. I addressed them that all committe members should have a say and kind of had to really fight for it which feels unfair since they didnt have to. They also expected we would just be okay with them selecting the films and genres based on past meeting where were planning the programming, and they said it wasnt finalised. They aren't the most inclusive types when it comes to making important decisions unfortunately. Hence im worried that film recommendations ive made which i have gained reactions(like hearts) for in our channels like discord have.
Do you have any recommendations to as to which mix of film genres or types we should include? We screen a lot of international films i believe, which I guess we just seem to gravitate towards and like. We usually had a more ethnic mix , but now seem to move towards more campy films. Im all for fun films but they still have to be good. We have campus cinema which we should really utilize i think to watch films thatarent likely to screen in my city. Im also pretty selective with movies since my choice is either to watch the film and then arrive homr late (1h 30min via public transport) or just leave for home).
Recently films we showed that were international did well with attendance. Films such as burning, pickpocket, devi. Still cant believe they chose speed racer as the opener. I was thinking like mishima life in 4 chapter or something or a big film that was good. We did city of god last se,ester and the theatre was packed. And we do dicsussions as well afterwards. Not sure sure what discussions were going to have with speed racer. Idk
