I built an alternative video host for MMD and 3D animations (Layenet)
Hey r/MMD,
We've been working on a new video hosting platform called Layenet (layenet.com). We built this as an alternative option for times when Iwara goes down, or for anyone who just isn't a fan of Iwara's interface or YouTube's heavy compression.
It’s completely open to all 2D & 3D animations, so it’s not strictly limited to MMD - Blender, Unity, and general 3D renders are all welcome.
We designed the player specifically around the needs of 3D creators and viewers. Here are the main features currently working:
- Video Quality: Playback supports up to 1440p at 60fps to keep renders looking sharp without heavy compression artifacts.
- Dual-Video Sync ("Wand" Tool): The player can perfectly sync two video layers at the same time. Viewers can use a wand tool to hover over the video and reveal the second layer in real-time (useful for alternate outfits or VFX before/afters).
- Spatial Comments: Instead of just commenting on a timestamp, you can draw a box on a specific part of the video frame to leave a comment on that exact spot (helpful for pointing out details or clipping).
- Asset Repo: We built in a dedicated section on the video pages so creators can directly host and share Model/Motion DLs and project files.
- Recommendation Engine: We currently have a basic recommendation system in place, but it needs work. We are actively improving it to make content discovery much better, so the site can be a viable place to spend time browsing instead of just watching direct links.
It's still a relatively new project, but the servers are up and running. If you're looking for a backup site for your library or just want to try out a different player, feel free to check it out.

P.S. We are still building out the hardware encoding services, so processing might be a bit slow right now. Please bear with us! If an upload fails or shows a blank screen, try reuploading and let us know.
Mods: If we need to add a specific flair, or if this type of post simply isn't permitted, please let us know. We can delete it, or feel free to remove it.
