I have a 2016 Kia Carnival that was originally built for the Korean market. The navigation system is fully Korean (maps, interface, language) and I need to convert it to European maps.
I’ve looked into this and found conflicting info.
Any advice or links to forum threads would be amazing. Thanks.

I have a 2016 Kia Carnival that was originally built for the Korean market. The navigation system is fully Korean (maps, interface, language) and I need to convert it to European maps.

I’ve looked into this and found conflicting info. Here’s what I understand so far:

· The head unit is likely region-locked, so just swapping an SD card with European maps won’t work.
· Korean models often use different GPS hardware (frequency, satellite systems) than European units.
· Even if I install European map data, the firmware may reject it due to region coding.

Has anyone successfully done this conversion on a 2016 Kia (Carnival/Sedona) or similar Hyundai/Kia model?

What I’m looking for:

  1. Can the dealer reflash the head unit to EU spec?
  2. Is replacing the entire head unit with an EU second-hand unit the only reliable way?
  3. Are there aftermarket Android Auto/Apple CarPlay adapters that bypass the stock nav entirely?

I’m open to replacing the head unit if needed, but want to keep steering wheel controls and reverse camera working.

Any advice or links to forum threads would be amazing. Thanks.
