Is an HRIS Data Analyst Role a Good Start for a Future in Data Analytics
I recently accepted an HRIS Data Analyst and I’m curious what people in data analytics think about it as a career step. I’m currently a sophomore studying Computer Science and I’m interested in eventually moving into data analytics/data engineering, but I’m not fully sure if this is considered a strong opportunity for that path. Based on the job description, I’ll be working with reporting, audits, data integrity, Excel, enterprise systems, HRIS tools, SAP queries, and possibly BI/reporting tools and Alteryx. It seems more operations/business-data focused than a traditional SQL/Python-heavy analyst role, but I’m wondering if this type of experience is still valuable for breaking into data analytics later on. What would you recommend I focus on learning while working this job to best leverage it for a future in data analytics?
