The Red Sox have scored 3 or fewer runs in 9 straight games.

That's their longest streak since 2012 (also 9 games, 9/23-10/2).

Their only other such streak in the last 70 years was in 1976 (9 games, 5/24-6/2).

They've only had streaks of 10+ games 4 times in franchise history, in 1955 (11 games), 1919 (10 games), 1909 (10 games), and 1907 (12 games).

In their last 7 games, the Red Sox have recorded 21 XBH (15 doubles, 6 HR) and have only scored 13 runs. Yet they are 3-4 in those 7 games.

The only other team in the history of baseball to record 21+ XBH and 13 or fewer runs over any 7-game span was Cleveland in 1909 (8/5-G2 to 8/12), recording 13 doubles and 8 triples while scoring 12 runs. They went 1-6 in that stretch.

In their past 6 games, the Sox' 19 XBH (15 doubles, 4 HR) with 11 runs scores is only matched by one other team as well: the 1919 Phillies (6/10-17) who recorded 15 doubles, 3 triples, and 1 HR while scoring 11 runs over their 6-game span. They lost all 6 games of that stretch.

Not entirely sure what exactly this stat means in terms of what is tells us about the offense, but I found it quite interesting.

Not only is that the most ever in Red Sox history through 40 games, it ties an MLB Modern-Era record if you exclude the 2020 season (Miami, St. Louis, and Houston each had over 10 that year). The 2024 San Francisco Giants, 2022 Cincinnati Reds, and the 1942 Boston Braves also had 7 pitchers debut in their first 40 games.

In those debut outings, the rookie pitchers have combined to post a 1.47 ERA (3 ER/18.1 IP), with a .164 opponent average (10-for-61) and 18 strikeouts.

As a group on the season, they have a 3.31 ERA (19 ER/51.2 IP) and 39 strikeouts, but if you remove Ryan Watson from the list as he has the bulk of those innings, it drops to a 1.45 ERA (5 ER/31.0 IP) with 24 K’s.

Granted, most of the debut games and opportunities for these guys have been low leverage situations, but still very impressive nonetheless.

Edit: forgot to mention who they actually are for those not aware: Jack Anderson, Jake Bennett, Alec Gamboa, Eduardo Rivera, Tyler Samaniego, Tyler Uberstine, and Ryan Watson
