Got a verbal “you’re the top candidate” call from recruiter, should I follow up after one week?

So I’ve been interviewing for a role I really want and I need some advice on whether to follow up or keep waiting.

Here’s the full timeline: I completed two rounds of interviews and then last Thursday my recruiter called me out of the blue. On the call she told me she had spoken directly with the hiring manager and that I am the top candidate after the interviews. She then asked me to confirm whether I was still interested in the role and whether the salary range was still okay for me. She said she needed to get some internal approvals done and that she would reach back out the following week with more information. She also specifically told me not to put in my two weeks notice yet, which I took as a sign that an offer is coming but just isn’t ready yet.

After the call I checked the job posting and it had been taken down and marked as filled.

It has now been exactly one week since that call and I haven’t heard anything. I know internal approvals can take time but I’m not sure if I should send a short follow up email tomorrow or if that’s too soon and I should keep waiting.

What would you do in my position?

hi For those who applied to Cornell Johnson with a test waiver, do you think it hurt your chances for admission or scholarships? I have a masters in finance and I’m not a great test taker, so I’m really going back and forth on whether to just go for the waiver or push through and take the GRE.
