Laptop: Buy in India or Germany?

I’m moving to Germany this October for my MSc in BioGeoSciences at the University of Koblenz.

My course will involve things like environmental science, biogeosciences, hydrology, ecology, fieldwork, GIS/data analysis, and potentially some programming/software work, so I’m looking for a laptop that can comfortably last me throughout my Master’s and preferably several years beyond that.

I’m currently considering buying a laptop here in India before I leave, but I’m wondering if it would be better/cheaper to buy one after reaching Germany.

For people studying in Germany:

- Is it generally cheaper to buy laptops in Germany compared with India?

- Are there better options/specifications available there?

- How is the warranty situation if I buy in India and use it in Germany?

- Are student discounts or tax-free/student pricing significant in Germany?

- Would you personally recommend buying before leaving India or after arriving in Germany?

My budget is around ₹70,000, and I’m looking for something reliable for long-term academic use rather than a gaming laptop.

Would really appreciate advice from students who have actually bought/used laptops in Germany!

🇩🇪 Moving to Koblenz on October 5 — Anyone else travelling around the same time?

Hey everyone!

I’m Abhiram Raghavendra Rao, from Bangalore, India, and I’ll be starting my MSc in Biogeosciences at the University of Koblenz this winter semester.

I’ll be leaving Bangalore on 4th October from Kempegowda International Airport, reaching Frankfurt on 5th October, and then travelling from Frankfurt to Koblenz.

Is anyone else travelling around the same time, especially from Bangalore or reaching Frankfurt/Koblenz on the 5th? Would be great to connect and maybe travel together from Frankfurt to Koblenz. 😄

I’m also looking for accommodation in Koblenz, preferably a private room in a WG/shared apartment. If anyone has any leads, available rooms, or knows someone who is looking for a flatmate, please let me know!

A little about me:

🌱 Vegetarian

🚭 Non-smoker

🍺 Non-drinker

🎬 Love movies

📚 Into books and anime

🌍 Love travelling and exploring new places

😄 Pretty chill, clean and easygoing

Would be great to connect with some future classmates/neighbours before reaching Germany!

Feel free to DM me if you're travelling around the same time or have any accommodation leads. 🇩🇪✈️
