UPDATE POST-VET: Strained Budgie Foot.

Okay so I decided go to the vet early (I was originally going on Friday) but I made a appointment for 3:30 today and went. Here's how it went.

So the Vet training to be an Avian one looked over him first, and we told her what we noticed, he was hesitant with his right leg and it was slight (very slightly) lifted and he limped/walked wonky on that side. The Training listen and she did warn us it could be a liver thing (someone mentioned that in the comments of one of my post) and it could be putting pressure on that side causing a limp.

We did mention we don't know if its an injury, (vet would know better) She took us to the room and looked him over, face first, then his feet. She said he was gripping normally and didn't see any wounds or scrapes. She checked his chest and butt and his wings which were all fine. She said it was likely what she thought previously.

We let him walk, and she was actually more concerned about his left leg because she saw the fact he was putting more pressure there a bigger issue. The dr. came in later and he did a more thorough test.

Only he held him and checked him all over, and he had the same thing to say. He looked overly healthy and fed, and his feet were gripping normally so its not a fracture or wound. THEN he pulled/spread his feet/leg out and noticed that his left leg (upper that hidden by feathers. Had a lesion or something. IDK what to call it but a wound or something caused by strain or friction/tension. basically it was redder than normal and that where he believes the issue is from his limp came from. As likely the pain from it cause him to favour the leg more or something. (hard to explain). he was sure that an X-Ray was not needed and that was the cause behind everything.

The Trainee gave us vet tape and told us to cover his perches and anywhere he stands. So we taped his perches, his swing, and his food and water bowl. (we finished the tape). They gave us 4 syringes to give him orally, once a day after food. (we're gonna wait to give him this tomorrow since we got home at around 7.)

For the cream we managed to get it on him, (twice daily) but it is hard. My sister grabs him and I put the cream on and its hard because he barely lets us do it, its hard to extend that leg too so we take turns. I'll try better next time.

We were told to see how it goes until the oral medicine is finished, and bring him back so around Monday maybe? But the cream is for 7 days. We'll see what happens.

I asked about cage layout and if I should lower it, she said to just add some comfortable bedding but no need for flat perches or to lower it. I guess because it's not a foot thing? I hope he gets better because the X-ray + Anesthesia is very expensive ($86 for X-Ray and $100 for Anesthesia) But The vet was sure it wasn't an X-Ray worthy thing.

Pray for us guys and I'd love you guys could give us some options for bedding and how to get the cream on him and his oral medicine and which first lol. Or even your own stories of this.

Strained Budgie Foot.

Let me start out with that I can't afford a vet and my parents won't let me, since majority are 120+ and they won't let me (and for another reason I'll post about.)

Anyway, my budgie (male) Midnight is around 10 years old. Thursday morning (June 18th) my sister (who had him) texted me that he was tripping and falling and when she picked him up his right foot staggered to get on like he was hesitating.

A few hours later he got better but it seems he's hesitant with the foot but still puts weight on it. But he's still chirps and beak grinds and normally verbal and he's not fluffed up (all the time) pretty much normal behaviour. But obviously when he walks, he walks weird.

She noticed one his nails is lighter then the other, but its not that toes/nail that seems to be messed up. Another toe is more relaxed then the others.

She thinks its was Wednesday night, cause while trying to sleep he made noise with his toys and she found him on top of his swing or something. But she didn't notice anything that night.

Other then all that he's fine. With his foot, the injured one you can see he's slightly lifted it, as if a person does when they sprained a part of their foot, like he puts weight on it but if you look closer, you can see it.

Originally we just lowered the perches and left everything and my sister let him out of the cage and we put a cloth on top so he could stand on it instead. But I read to confine him to the cage so we did that yesterday night (i was at work, June 21st) he didn't like it, we only have a big cage too (having lost a previous budgie 2 months ago.) He wants to be out and keeps climbing the bars. I zip-tied some Cardboard to the upper sides but doesn't seem to change.

A lot of places said to get flat perches, But my budgie doesn't like new things and I feel he wouldn't walk on them even if we took the perches away (if I take them away he jumps up and climbs the cage walls) Others said unless the bird is disable that flat perches aren't a good idea? But because of the cages design (it has 2 opening we zip-ried shut) he gets on the closer perch, goes side to side, jump down to try and open them, turns and jumps back on the perch and turns again (which I don't want)

IDK what to do, we're thinking about getting a small hamster cage/carrier bird cage to put him in so he doesn't climb. But I fear he'll be more upset at that. Other then one foot being a bit more relaxed he seems fine, Idk if he'll get better later.

(The first pict was taken on thursday, everything else is today.)

I removed the cardboard cause he started messing with it by climbing. (he's bored).
