How do you manage Ironman training while travelling?

I'm a complete beginner working towards an Ironman. I haven't even run 10 km yet, so I'm still building my endurance and consistency.

I travel around 3–4 times a year, usually for 1–2 weeks per trip. Whenever I'm travelling, I find it difficult to motivate myself to train because mentally I'm in vacation mode and want to enjoy the trip. However, when I return, I feel like it takes me a while to get back to where I was with my training.

For those of you who do Ironman or triathlon training and travel regularly, how do you handle this? Do you train during your holidays, take a complete break, or adjust your training before and after travelling?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who have dealt with this long-term. How much does taking 1–2 weeks off affect your progress, and what's the best way to get back into training afterwards?
