Do bass player need to play acoustic guitar or any other musical instruments before playing bass?

As a person that newly introduce to bass I'm really interested to play one but I'm curious is there any tips or trick for bass to make you master your bass even faster?

As a new person that just got introduce to bass, I'm really interested and excited to buy one. However should I choose four string or five string and what kind of type of bass, please share your opinion
