Going to academy AGAIN?

Long story short because I'm at wits end.
I'm a UK-US citizen who recently graduated a 3-year maritime academy and am endorsed as a deckie. I chose to study in my country of residence (UK) because I was young and dumb.

Some of you might already know that those who sail for UK companies eat massive shit in terms of pay, which is why I'm desperately looking to finally use my US passport for something.

I have 2 options:

-Re-doing 3 years at an academy in the US, adding student loans and moving continents to re-learn the exact same stuff I learnt while studying 3 years in the UK.

or..

-Eat £31k worth of shit every year for the next 6 years while I build up the required 1080 days of seatime necessary to take the USCG 3rd mate exams, by which point I would have probably become a UK C/O.

Has anyone had to re-take the same degree? any thoughts and opinions will be greatly appreciated. I'm worried that having to re-do school will eventually drive me nuts, though I would hate myself for missing out on potentially earning 10x my current salary in the future.
