Do cleanings get less painful over time?

Do cleanings get less painful over time?

I didn’t go to the dentist for my entire adult life (now 33) and had SRP at the end of January. Thank god I was under anesthesia for that (also got a bunch of other work done). The dr says I have “mild”periodontal but I don’t know my pocket depths

I really stepped up my routine, water flossing twice a day, brushing twice a day for 2 minutes (with a manual brush, my gums were too sensitive for months after the srp for my electric brush, then I had temp crowns I didn’t want to interfere with), string flossed every night after brushing with prescription toothpaste and used therabreath health gums mouthwash (I did use the prescribed chlorhexidine initially and switched to therabreath when I ran out). My gums don’t bleed when I brush or floss at home.

I had my first cleaning since the srp yesterday and OMG it was so incredibly painful. Even through the oral sedation they had me on I was squirming from the pain. I can put up with a lot of pain but I know I was probably making it difficult for her to do her job and it was just a miserable experience. She said my gums bled a lot and I did have a lot of tartar build up, something about all the staining contributed to it. All advice she gave me I was already doing.. all I could think of was how am I going to go through this again every 3-4 months for the rest of my life? 😔 do they get better over time?
