am i crazy?

i, 27/m, am an electrician, from pennsylvania. i am currently working on hvac controls and we are in the midst of a heatwave. no a/c in the building i’m working in, and lunch/break is taken outside at a picnic table under an umbrella. today’s high was 101°F. is it crazy that after working all day and sweating, that i like to sit outside in the evening, even with this heatwave?

we absolutely LOVE the voidz, but what other groups do you listen to?

big time voidz, strokes and anything strokes/julian adjacents fan. i’ve found myself getting more and more immersed into the music. for example, i love to compare how the music sounds in my car vs. my wife’s car vs. headphones etc. suffice to say i’m absolutely obsessed, i’ve never had a band that i’ve found where i enjoy every single song like these guys, and they just scratch a certain itch. i’m curious what other bands you guys like to listen to because i found myself in a bit of a music echo chamber where i only listen to the same groups. some of my genre interests are rock (60’s and 70’s like david bowie or the beatles or rolling stones ; some 80’s but mostly 90’s rock, grunge, and nu-metal, and 00’s) i also enjoy electronic and and some pop. would love some recommendations for absolute bangers of bands that you guys would also suggest, as i’d love to expand my music horizons, listen to more bands, and see more live shows. music is so diluted nowadays, ask anyone what they’re listening to and unless it’s mainstream, i feel like no one has heard of it. when in the mood to discover new music, i’ll tune to member funded radio releasing new undiscovered artists, but in my area, only one station plays indie rock and folk so songs for me are a hit or miss. ask me what music i want to listen to and i’ll say anything except country or rap. any input is welcome and greatly appreciated, would love to hear what you guys think!

EDIT: Wow, i’m astonished, i really didn’t think this post would have gotten this many responses. i just wanted to say thank you to everyone for their input and suggestions. looks like i have lots of research and listening to do! also for those who asked if im looking for music similar to the voidz, the answer is yes and no. the voidz are incredibly unique, with so many different genre-blending, rule-bending styles. the reason i came to love the voidz is because of how they’ve shown me to listen to music differently, i no longer search for a catchy earworm, but look for the slow burn, something that takes longer to appreciate and even longer to find the minute details that give the songs such magic. work was put in to enjoy the music and it’s that much more rewarding because of it, and that’s the feeling that im chasing.

please feel free to continue to suggest artists and, specifically albums of where to start or standout albums with these bands. thank you all again so, so much, and i hope you all take each other’s recommendations so we can all learn to share and love new music together!

philly show 6/26 review

so for background i bought lawn tickets because i didn’t want to pay the high price for seats, especially when the only seats available at the time of purchase were $350+. no big deal, when the main act comes on, everyone stands anyway. my wife and i showed up around 8, got some drinks and merch and started searching for a place to set our blanket down to sit. we walked around the entire lawn section to find a spot, and when i tell you this place was PACKED to the brim!

the venue itself was kind of whack, if you’ve been to the Mann, then you may know what i’m talking about. it’s an open amphitheater with an upper level seating which obstructs stage view from over half the lawn crowd. and julian didn’t even take notice of the crowd on the lawn until about halfway through the show.

the strokes came on around 9:10 and opened with “is this it?” julian sound absolutely amazing the entire show, i was astonished. this is only my second strokes show and i’ve always heard that the quality of his voice has dropped in past years. but they played songs from all of their albums and julian couldn’t have sounded better, hitting the high notes and screams so well. the rest of the band was jamming and shredding, and it was a real treat to have nikolai pick up the mic and talk to the audience.

as for my experience, there weren’t many people around me singing along which was sad but i guess that’s what you get when you’re back on the lawn. although i could still hear the crowd singing along during their bigger songs like “ode to the mets” “yolo” etc. i was a bit disappointed that they only played the radio edit of fool as i like the new music just as much as the older releases. the autotune doesn’t bother me because i know it’s being used as an artful expression, not a crutch.

the crowd seemed a bit confused before the encore, as the band said nothing about a “last song.” there was no good night, or thank you, or anything. the stage just went black and guitar feedback played for about 2-3 minutes with few in the audience hyping up an encore. the band did eventually come back and rock out the encore.

all in all, the music was absolutely peak and i’m very grateful to have gotten the opportunity to see my favorite band perform with such energy and mastery. but the crowd vibes were just off. is this just how concerts are now? or maybe it was just where i was seated, idk.
