Warhammer WHM-7S, Northwind Highlanders

Fifth model for my play group's escalation league. Definitely the best plaid I've done so far, but the mon I tried to freehand did not come out. It is what it is.

Our play group has been taking a bit of a break this month, so I'm working on a Stinger, two LRM Carriers, a Maxim, a Galleon and two stands of Inner Sphere Battle Armor. Probably will be a while before I get those up: in a week, our league resumes, and I'll be turning my attention to the Grand Dragon and Hunchback for the final month.

Grasshopper GHR-5J, Northwind Highlanders

Third model for my playgroup's escalation league. I finished him alongside a Wasp last month, but it took a bit of time before I felt he was picture ready (and the Wasp still isn't, but we're working on that). This particular 'Mech has the Cowan tartan on his thigh. I did far better with it this time. Second picture is all three completed so far.

The Warhammer (my current month's 'Mech) and the Wasp are equally far along at the moment so I am working on them together. Hopefully I'll have them finished at roughly the same time so I can get caught up.

Next weekend is our monthly meeting, and after that, we're bumping up to the final 50 PV increase, for a total of 250 PV. After that, we declare a winner of the league and it'll be on to a map campaign.

GUN-3ERD Gunslinger, Northwind Highlanders

Second model for my play group's Alpha Strike escalation league. We're going up 50 PV per month, so between the Highlander I posted previously and this guy, this was the submission to bump me up to 100. We actually met this weekend for the 150 PV mark; however, the model I painted may have been battlefield ready, but not quite "reddit ready". (Edit: I brought the Grasshopper from the Northwind Highlander forcepack, which just needs some additional highlights, and a Wasp, which needs... a lot more.)

I had to go back and fix both the MacNaughton tartan on the leg and the Stewart tartan on the shoulder, and while it is better, I'm still not happy with it. I may try a few small things just to make it a little more readable but it's not likely to change drastically.

Edit: Wanted to add that the next bump up (pretty predictably) is the Warhammer to round out the forcepack.

HGN-740 Highlander, Northwind Highlanders

There was another post of an excellently painted House Imarra Urbanmech, so I thought I'd post mine. It's there, somewhere.

Did this for an Alpha Strike escalation league with friends, and this was my first 50 PV. I learned a lot about painting plaid on this one. As in, don't do it. It's a lesson I will immediately forget.

DropShip Gravity

My understanding of DropShips in Battletech is that, when in space, the only artificial gravity generated is by the forward thrust of the craft itself -- when not burning to or from a planet, a DropShip's passengers are subject to the whims of zero gravity.

However, this doesn't always appear to be the case in the novels or in the games. I'm reading 'The Highlander Covenant' (technically 'Grey Watch Protocol'), and early on in the book, the Capellans are invited to dine aboard the commanding officer's DropShip. This was kind of puzzling as at the time they were presumably docked to their JumpShip, which as far as I can tell, does not generate any artificial gravity itself for these Dropships -- the docking hardpoints don't rotate in a ring around the Jumpship in the way a Grav Deck does.

I thought maybe that was an error of assumption on the author's part that DropShips have some sort of Star Wars-ian artificial gravity, but then in 'Chaos Reign', the most recent MW5 expansion, Adam Steiner does the same thing and invites Mason to dine on his DropShip.

Considering in neither circumstance I can imagine people being excited to try and drink their Timbiqui Dark as it floats away from them and being tethered to a railing while they eat, is there some other way that DropShips generate gravity that I've overlooked?

Hot Spots Draconis Reach Already Sold Out?

I've been refreshing the website all day waiting for this book to go live, and as far as I can tell, it's just dropped, but every time I try and add it to my cart, it says its sold out. Did anyone manage to order it off the CGL website and I'm just somehow late to the game?

Update: It's now working!
