Help showing poverty lifestyle to students

I’m a middle school math skills teacher (Kids struggling with math take an extra class) and they are going to be trying to survive off minimum wage. I am going to have them find an apartment, transportation, groceries, healthcare, etc. I am going to randomly assign some of them spouses, some children, some married with no kids, etc.
I teach in a very privileged town (asked them what they thought minimum wage was and one kid said $50 an hour 😐 We are in MA so it’s $15. They asked why I don’t have a car and I said it’s expensive and they didn’t understand how I didn’t have money.) I’m hoping to throw some scenarios at them (oh no, insurance didn’t cover your bill, your car broke down, etc) and was hoping to hear from people who are experiencing it. I am very privileged in not having college loans or anything so I want to hear from people experiencing it.
Hoping for some suggestions like don’t forget to include a ___ in your budget or sometimes a ___ bill comes up. Not sure if this makes sense, sorry!
