Incredibly Rude/Unwelcoming Encounters In Croatia
We just left Split after also visiting Dubrovnik and while the areas are absolutely lovely and historically fascinating the people we encountered really ruined the time for us, especially in Split. I know about the differences in service culture in Croatia and even general social differences that could be interpreted as coldness, but we simply had one awful experience after another.
My five year old daughter was smelling flowers today in Split deciding which she wanted me to get for her and the vendor clapped in her face and told her to stop. Locals would literally push people out of their way without a single word even causing an older individual from a group in front of ours to be knocked over, and the people trying to sell tours near the port were incredibly pushy and continually blocked us from moving forward until I became very stern with them. On top of that, every single shop we stopped in treated us like they wished we had just kept walking. Beautiful place, but sadly our day in Split was ruined by the people and we ended up feeling completely and utterly unwelcome.
