How can I shorten the time it takes to get an AA?

I’m planning on attending a community college in Florida. I’m currently undecided on a major but I want to pursue a law career eventually, so probably something in that general area!

I’ve taken a handful of AP exams and I’m trying to figure out how much they could realistically shorten the time it takes to complete an AA degree. I also feel I have some gaps in my understanding of how credits/general education requirements work, so I’d appreciate corrections if I’m misunderstanding anything :)

Here’s what I think I have so far from AP scores:

  • AP Lang (5) + AP Lit (5) = 6 communication credits
  • AP Art History (5) = 3 credits I believe & humanities requirement fulfilled
  • AP Gov (5) = 3 social science credits

I think I’d still need one more speech/comms course & additional social science credits (maybe 1–2 classes?)

I’m also considering CLEP exams for:

  • Psychology
  • Western Civilization
  • College Algebra

(Also, are there ways to waive CLEP exam fees?)

Best-case scenario: I pass all the CLEPs and receive all possible AP credit.
Worst-case scenario: I only receive AP credit and fail the CLEPs.

Roughly how much time could this realistically shave off an associate’s degree in the best and worst case scenario? Are there downsides to this approach, or additional things I should consider?
