Trip Planning

Gidday travellers — for anyone planning a campervan, motorhome or caravan trip around New Zealand, Touring Brain is a free road trip tool worth checking out:

https://www.touringbrain.co.nz

It basically does the job of about five different apps in one place:

- plans smart routes and sensible stops
- checks weather along the way, not just at the destination
- helps flag dodgy wind / rain days before you tow or drive into them
- shows camps and useful stops on or near your route
- helps with those “go today or wait it out?” decisions

It’s built around real NZ touring conditions — fast-changing weather, exposed roads, mountain passes, ferry timing, and long stretches where the next good stop actually matters.

Might be handy if you’re putting together a South Island loop, a longer NZ roadie, or just trying to avoid getting caught out by the weather.

Broover - Distilling app

Gidday folks — we’ve been building a distilling app and would love a few Air Still users to kick the tyres.

It’s called Broover:
https://broover.app

Entiely Web based so works on any device

At the moment it’s completely free while we knock off the rough edges and get feedback from real users.

A few things it does:

  • Tracks a wash from fermenter to bottle
  • Distilling logs for stripping runs, spirit runs, cuts, dilution, ageing, blending, etc
  • Air Still, Air Still Pro, and T500 specific operating tips
  • Air Still / Air Still Pro friendly workflows
  • Free recipes
  • A bunch of useful calculators — dilution, ABV, cuts, yield, sugar/wash planning, and so on
  • New label maker for finished bottles
  • Pill tracking support for RAPT, Tilt, and iSpindel

The main idea is to keep everything in one place instead of scattered across notebooks, spreadsheets, phone notes, and “I’m sure I wrote that down somewhere.”

It’s early, so there’ll definitely be some rough edges, but that’s why we’d love feedback from people actually using this gear and making runs.

Give it a look if you’re keen:
https://broover.app

And if something’s confusing, broken, missing, or just plain annoying, please tell us. That’s exactly the feedback we’re after.

Broover update

www.Broover.app is out of Beta and in production — but still free to test, all your data will be saved, take it for a spin and let us know what you think.

Pile of new stuff since the last update:

  • Bottle label maker — design and print your own bottle labels straight from the lot page. 7 typography styles + 5 border treatments, image upload (your logo, photo, or full artwork), rich-text editing, PDF download + direct print.
  • Pretty much every brewing device works now — RAPT Pill, Tilt (4 paths including the standard cloud format TiltPi / T4W / Tilt phone app all use), iSpindel, plus the whole Brewfather family (Plaato, Float, Grainfather Conical, BrewPi, MyBrewBot…).
  • Auto-import recipes from Brewfather
  • Wash export/import  — back up your wash, share it with another distiller, or move one between accounts.
  • Plus full hardware/recipe/wash import-export

Take it for a spin and see what you think — drop us feedback via the email link on the footer. Cheers!

Free NZ towing & trip planning tool

Hey all,

Just sharing a free NZ tool we've put together for fellow tourers and campers — Touring Brain. Built to make trip planning easier. https://www.touringbrain.co.nz

Plan a route from any starting town. Pick a destination, set a loop with stops along the way, or just say "find me somewhere with good weather within X km" and let it suggest. It'll lay out the route on real NZ roads with daily legs and surface campgrounds along the way — DOC sites, holiday parks and freedom camping spots, all on one map, filtered by what you actually need (powered, dump station, dog-friendly, etc.).

You can have the whole itinerary emailed to you — handy for re-opening it on the road, sharing with whoever's coming along, or forwarding to family back home. There's an optional daily morning weather briefing too while you're travelling — wind, rain and gusts pitched at tall vehicles, not just generic forecasts. Both are opt-in, one-click unsubscribe in every email.

Free, ad-free, no app to install — runs in your browser. Free forever.

Have a look: https://www.touringbrain.co.nz

Enjoy

Hey folks — looking for a few Beta testers for a brewing/distilling app I've been building

I'm Carl, a home distiller in NZ, (Airstill Pro and T500) and I've been quietly building a web app called Broover (broover.app) to scratch my own itch — I couldn't find anything that handled the full hobbyist workflow end-to-end without spreadsheet gymnastics.

What it does:

  • Logs your washes (manual entries, or auto-pulled if you have a RAPT Pill)
  • Walks you through strip → spirit → botanical runs with cuts, timers, and live temp/SG graphs
  • Tracks lots back to the originating wash, so you always know what's in the bottle
  • Recipes for gin, vodka, rum, whiskey and liqueurs — including finish-from-neutral flows for Air Still Pro folks
  • A botanical pairing matrix and standalone ABV / dilution / bottling calcs
  • Built around real stills: Air Still, Air Still Pro, T500 Pro Reflux, T500 Alembic dome

It's free while in Beta. No credit card, no trial-trap. I just want real distillers giving it a hammering and telling me what's broken or missing. There's a feedback email in the site footer — drop me a line with anything from "this button is in the wrong place" to "I wish it did X."

Happy to answer questions.

Cheers, and thanks to the admins for letting me post.

Hi all — built a free site for NZ touring after getting sick of having weather in one app, routes in another, and camp info in a third: Touring Brain (touringbrain.co.nz)

It pulls a few things into one place:

  • Route planner — multi-day road trips with daily legs, weather per day, suggested overnight camps. There's a "Loop" mode where you give it a few must-see places and it works out the best order to visit them.
  • Daily email briefings — subscribe and get a short morning weather + route update emailed each day you're on the road.
  • Caravan towing & loading check — sanity-checks tow rating, ball weight, ATM against NZ legal limits before you roll.
  • Campsite search — DOC, council and holiday parks all in one place, filtered by the facilities you actually need.

Free, no signup needed, no ads.

Any bugs or feature requests, there's a feedback link in the footer of every page that comes straight to my inbox.
