Ohto Promecha 1000M:

Ohto Promecha 1000M:

The OHTO Promecha 1000M feels like the awkward middle child of the Promecha family. Literally, no one talks about it. It is strangely absent even from collections that have the rest of its family members, which often includes more elusive pencils by Ohto. Overshadowed by the Super Promechas and ignored for the newer models.

However, in my opinion, it might be the greatest mechanical pencil OHTO ever made.

It does have that fabled grip wobble that reviewers speak of, but it's nothing a bit of kapton tape won't fix. After all, most of those tight QC controlled pencils are mass-produced amalgamations of 90% plastic.

The 1000M is less gimmicky, mechanically cleaner, and has very good ergonomics. It is also ever so slightly front heavy, has an adjustable sleeve, and that sublime banded knurling is the cherry on top.
