I can follow a solved problem perfectly. Then I cover it, change one number, and suddenly I have never seen algerbra before.
Searching how to do math homework mostly gives me more completed examples. I need a method that forces me to choose each step myself. What do you use between “I get it” and actually solving one alone?

My indoor cat slipped out while a contractor was carrying equipment in last week. I found out yesterday that the city shelter picked her up the same evening. They scanned her chip, but the phone number was an old one. My name and current email were still on the chip registry.
The shelter adopted her out after a three day hold. Staff contacted the adopter, who knows the situation but does not want to return her. I have vet records, the chip registration, photos going back six years, and her county license. The shelter says the adoption transferred ownership and they cant give me the adopter’s information.
Does the outdated phone number mean I lost my ownership rights, or can I legally require either party to return my cat?
