36 years old, working in a restaurant as a server, need a career switch. Where to start?
Hi everyone.
As the title says I am 36 years old and I work in a restaurant in NYC as a server. I make around 100k a year but this job has drained me out completly. Working late nights, dealing with hungry and angry people, managers who mess up your schedule and so on, working weekends and holidays is just too much at this stage of my life.
I would always complain about this job and I did nothing about it because I was in my comfort zone. Which eventually led me to being super miserable and I genuinely lost a connection with myself. If you asked me what do I want to do, I would simply say - I don’t know. And this is true because I really do not know what is out there for me. I feel like I have lost all of my interests, hobbies and motivation for anything, yet I want to change my life.
I have a bachelor degree in psychology from Europe, but ever since I came to the States I just worked in a restaurants and catering. I have no aspiration of becoming a psychologist, this degree seems like I wasted 4 years studying something that didn’t bring me anything meaningful in my life.
I assume I have a lot ot transferable skills from hospitality industry, so I would sincerely appreciate if somebody could give me a couple of leads about career change and what are some options out there that can lead me to complete career switch.
I also have saved money and I am willing to quit my job and focus on studying and getting certification/degree or take a pay cut and work less but focus more on switching careers.
Thann you
