Redundancy and return from loan

In a month or two I'm coming back from loan to one of the several Departments currently cutting its headcount.

There's no role held open for me, so the default is a quite strict timetable for redeployment followed by 'exoring redundancy options'. I'd much rather not be made redundant, even if there are good terms. I like being a Civil Servant.

But there are very limited roles available at my level - and, as we are all aware, the CS wide job market is challenging as well. Communication from HR and my new KIT manager is pretty unresponsive - so it seems hard to leverage any proactive help, and that doesn't fill me with confidence about redeployment.

I'm picking this up with my union. But has anyone been in a similar position? Any ideas of what I should be doing apart from the obvious of continuing applications?
