How long do ssris take for social anxiety?
I’m hearing all sort of timelines that it takes for
SSRIs to work for social anxiety but which one is true for someone with severe panic in intimidating situations where I am unable to breathe and am shaky. I trialed lexapro 10mg for 20 weeks which didn’t work well before changing to fluoxetine 20mg. I have been on it for 9 weeks. And although, things are MUCH better than pre meds and Lexapro in comparison, I am still not where I’d like to be. Panic in high stakes situations is still very much there…
Apparently some say 12 weeks for maximal benefit. Others say that it can take much longer than that, and that the 12 week mark is just a rough timeline for clinicians to make an assessment as to whether it is working. Ive heard that social anxiety can improve immensely for some who used to panic and for others not quite well. Can someone please shed some light on their experience on how long it has taken them? And whether all situations improve and by how much? I have a bit more hope on this medication because a family member went on it for the same reason and her social anxiety is non existent now
