Few Month Gap in Insurance - What do I do?

Hi Everyone, I am looking for any guidance and suggestions on a situation I am having.

I currently have health insurance through my father's employer. My father tragically passed away nearly two years ago from cancer. My father's employer has allowed me to stay on the insurance until his 2-year death anniversary. Well, my father's 2-year death anniversary comes up in July, so I will be losing my insurance in July.

Thankfully, I am a student teacher, and where I will be student teaching starting in September, I will get health insurance.

My question is, what is my best option for the few months I will be without insurance? It will likely be from the beginning of July to the end of September.

I looked into short-term plans, but the ones I saw exclude anyone with pre-existing conditions, and I live with pretty significant health problems. I guess my question is: can I apply for Medicaid for a few months, then switch to my insurance through my employer? If yes, when should I apply for Medicaid?

(If it helps with context, I currently reside in Delaware, am 24 years old, and currently do not work. I will be receiving a stipend through student teaching, but I am unsure when I will recieve that. Additionally, I have worked with my specialists to not schedule any appointments during this time frame, and I am currently working with them to get medication renewals before I lose my health insurance).

Thank you so much in advance for any guidance anyone can provide!
