Company culture

Hi all! I am coming to Taiwan for work in a month. A little bit about me: Born and raised in one of the SEA countries, studied and started my white collar job in the UK, stay in the UK for 5 years now so pretty much familiar and used to british culture. My race is Chinese and i'm a taiwanese citizen but only been to taiwan for 2 times and each time, it's just a short amount of time. Can only speak basic mandarin and my mandarin level is 小學.

I have been offered a role in a foreign company in Taiwan and all the employee there are taiwanese but all the work are conducted in English. My concern is how is the Taiwan company culture and people? In the UK here esp at my current company, people are not very direct and always avoid the argument with fake smile, fake convo, just being passive aggressive and never say directly. Are taiwan people very direct with words esp at work?

Also since my Mandarin level is just kindergarten, I'm worried about struggling to build relationships with colleagues. Ofc they can speak english but in group convo, they will speak mandarin and if I cant catch up, i will be left out and this is sth that's i'm really worried about.

Last but not least, i heard that the weather is quite rough in Taiwan. UK already is very rough with all rain all around the year even in summer and I can barely see the sun in the UK. I heard in Taiwan, because of typhoon, it rains alot and if it is summer, it's very humid and hot. How are you guys handling the weather in Taiwan? If there are any brits living in Taiwan right now, how do you think of weather in Taiwan and Uk and which is worse?

Thank you very much for the time and I do really appreciate if you all can help me with this✨

Advice needed SWV, CoS

So my employer basically messed up the whole CoS. Chose the wrong route( She chose student completion course but I'm currently on graduate visa), CoS start date, end date, SoC code, salary figure, working hours per week, address, everything is wrong from CoS summary. All these incorrect things are what I pointed out and they have no idea about these mistakes.

She did apply for two people before and the last person she assigned CoS was in May 2025. She chose the right category for that guy but not for me lol( Don't know if she don't want to pay for the ISC fees for my case because choosing that student category is exempt from ISC fees so). She also got DOB wrong for the person she first assigned CoS in 2024.

So if current CoS is withdrawn and applied new one putting all the correct ones, even still, is there a high chance that I will get SWV? Because I have heard that Home office is stricter and this complex case can take months.

I told my employer to get immigration lawyer but ofcourse she doesnt want to and let that woman who filled all the details incorrect to take charge of assigning new CoS to me again🫠

At this rate, is it even worth to take a risk of applying and continuing at this company? If you have got an experience similar to this, can you please suggest me?😭

Temporary Shortage List (TSL)

Hey guys, I really need your help😭

  1. The bookkeeper role with soc code 4122 on going salary is £33400 but the general threshold is £41700. If I am a new entrant switching from graduate visa, will i be eligible for £33400 or do i still need to earn £41700? I'm really stressed as my employer messed up my soc code. She applied it under finance officer soc code 4124 which is no longer eligible as it's medium skilled and not under TSL. So, I'm looking at other soc which are in TSL.

  2. Also, can SOC code can be corrected under Sponsor note and does my employer need to withdraw COS and assign the new one?

If anyone knows about this, can u please suggest me? Really appreciate for help!

Hi all. My employer didn't do research about updated sponsor rules and generated the CoS with minimum salary £26k and period as 5 years. According to new rules, i'm applying via new entrant route and minimum salary should be £33,400 and my grad visa will expired in this oct. So, CoS salary should be £33,400 and period of work visa should be 2 years. After she figured out, my director agreed to continue sponsor me. However, since CoS has already been assigned, she could only amend under Sponsor note. I'm worried since the salary gap is too large, can I amend it under sponsorship note? Also can start date and end date be corrected using sponsorship note area since I don't think these three are minor errors at all? Also she claimed that she doesnt need to provide me with CoS summary sheet the has details of SoC code to me which is weird because from my knowledge, there should be CoS summary sheet where i can see what she filled for my personal details and SoC code inclu salary figure. Would really appreciate it if you all could help me with this because i'm going crazy with all these things😭
