Altimun Develop balances price and functionality. You will find ALL your commonly-used features from Altium PRO licenses in Develop, just designed for smaller teams of up to 5 seats.
Altium Develop costs $1,990 /year. You can add a maximum of 4 more seats (5 total) for $995/year each. For bigger teams 6+, Agile Teams is a better fit. We will create a similar thread to clarify Altium Agile next!
Altium Develop offers all your commonly-used features and functions from BOTH your Altium Designer Pro license and Altium 365, just priced for smaller teams. The process is quick and easy. You keep the same workspace and we “re-wrap" it in the Develop clothing. All your projects, library elements, etc stay intact during the switch. You can start the process here.
Altium Develop doesn't offer customer support (because we were determined to make it very affordable for smaller teams), but you can get help in the forum and find the answers in the official documentation.
No. You retain full ownership of your perpetual license.
The honest answer is that you can design a PCB with almost any tool — including an older perpetual license. What you can't get with a perpetual license is the cloud platform that comes with Altium Develop, and that's where the real difference lives.
Altium Develop gives you a connected design environment where your data is managed centrally, your stakeholders can comment directly on the design without needing a license, your BOM is tied to live supply chain information, and your team is always working from the same version of the same design. Version history, requirements management, task tracking — it's all connected to the design itself rather than scattered across emails, shared drives, and spreadsheets.
The subscription isn't only about getting software updates. It's also about replacing an entire layer of manual overhead (the file sharing, the version confusion, the BOM spreadsheets, the back-and-forth with reviewers) with a workflow that handles it automatically. That's what makes the subscription worth it, and it's something a perpetual license fundamentally can't replicate, regardless of which version you're on.
