Crazy how one of Luan's early hallmarks was terrorizing Leni with a fake spider. It seems so alien to the kind of character she is nowadays.
How I would fix/rewrite "April Fools Rules"
(Foreword: This is basically a Loud House retelling of the Regular Show episode "Prankless".(Which is absolute cinema and you should totally check it out!) While I understand that this leaves a lot to be desired in the originality department, I feel that the plot of this episode would be absolutely PERFECT for Luan and the Loud House, for it would recontextualize Luan's pranks in a *far* more positive light; Instead of using her pranks to torture, humiliate and terrorize the people she supposedly loves, she uses them to protect her family, hometown, and her own reputation)
*Establishing shot of the Loud House*
We see Luan on a ladder in Lincoln's bedroom, giggling to Mr. Coconuts as she duct tapes his bed to the ceiling as a relatively harmless prank. At that moment, Leni comes in, playfully chasing a balloon. The balloon touches Lincoln's bed on the ceiling, causing it to detach from the duct tape and crash on top of Leni, badly injuring her, alerting the rest of the family with her agonized cries. The camera zooms in on Luan's *horrified* facial expression.
*Cut to the front of the house*
The whole family has gathered to see Leni being placed on a stretcher to be sent to the hospital. A paramedic says that Leni is *lucky to be alive*. Luan, absolutely *gut-wrenched* to hear those words, runs to Leni's side, tearfully apologizing for injuring her; although Leni makes it clear that she is not angry, Luan is extremely angry at *herself* for hurting someone she cares about with her stupid pranks, and, after Leni is loaded into the ambulance and taken to the hospital, Luan solemnly declares that she is done with pranks *forever* and storms off into the house.
The younger siblings are ecstatic that they will never again have to put up with Luan's annoying pranks, but are interrupted by the older sisters and their parents, with Rita explaining that Luan's pranks once saved all of Royal Woods.
*Enter Flashback*
Royal Woods and neighboring town Hazeltucky have engaged in an annual Prank War on April Fools Day for several decades, which inevitably ends with Royal Woods completely destroyed and humiliated.
However, on the April Fools Day that Luan was 8 years old, she unleashed upon Hazeltucky a prank SO devastating (city block-sized balloon filled with spoiled tapioca pudding launched at Hazeltucky via trebuchet), it forced Hazeltucky to sign a peace treaty with Royal Woods, that would last so long as Luan was in the pranking biz)
*End Flashback*
Lola smugly remarks that Hazeltucky couldn't possibly have held a grudge *this* long, only for a barrage of water balloons to begin raining down from the sky, instantly proving her wrong and prompting the family to flee into the house.
At that moment, a fleet of red vans roar into Royal Woods' streets (launching cream pies, whoope cushions and other prank items at the hapless citizens of Royal Woods), followed by Hazeltucky citizens carrying paintball guns and firecrackers on slingshots, along with a black stretch limo carrying the villainous Mayor of Hazeltucky, Joyce Crandall (yes I made her the Mayor of Hazeltucky in this AU) who announces that, with Luan Loud no longer in the pranking game, nothing stands between Hazeltucky and the total annihilation of Royal Woods.
An emergency meeting is called at City Hall, where everyone is arguing over how to deal with the invasion. Lynn Sr. And Rita remind everyone that it was Luan's pranks that stopped Hazeltucky in the past, and is the only thing that can save them all now. Several others (led by Lincoln and Lynn Jr.) claim that they can stop Hazeltucky without Luan, an idea that gains a lot of followers. Thus Mayor Davis decides that Lynn Sr. And Rita will try to get Luan back into pranking while Lincoln, Lynn Jr. and the rest of Royal Woods will try to stop Hazeltucky's onslaught using whatever means they have at their disposal.
*Cut to the Loud House*
Luan is dejectedly putting all her pranking supplies into trash bags when she hears someone at the door. Rita tries a knock-knock joke, but Luan isn't having it. Luan states that, if there's even a *chance* that her pranks will hurt someone she cares about again, she'd rather NEVER pull a prank again. Rita and Lynn Sr. tell her to look out the window; she does this, seeing all the damage Hazeltucky has already caused, but says that a bunch of buildings can always be rebuilt, while a human life is irreplaceable. Seeing their daughter's point, Rita and Lynn Sr. withdraw, but not before Rita brow-beats Luan for abandoning everyone in their time of need.
*Cue Montage*
Meanwhile, Lincoln, Clyde, the Loud sisters except Leni, and the other Royal Woods citizens wage a futile guerilla war against Hazeltucky's citizens, quickly succumbing to the superior pranking skills of the invading town (Luna and Lana attack with expired ham, but are overwhelmed by dump trucks loaded with whoope cushions; Lincoln and Clyde attempt to prank a Hazeltucky public restroom, but return tarred and feathered by the enemy forces as Lynn Jr. runs into the crossfire of paintballs to rescue them), all the while Hazeltucky's citizens engage in total destruction and defacement of Royal Woods (Planes dropping TP and cream pies everywhere, dumping green dye into Tall Timbers Lake, whoope cushion trucks tipping over and leveling entire blocks to the ground, etc)
*Cut back to the Loud House*
Meanwhile, Rita and Lynn Sr. return to Luan's room, with a guest; a wheelchair-bound Leni. Leni begs Luan to use her pranks to save Royal Woods, but Luan refuses, saying that Leni and everyone else she cares about means more to her than any prank, gag or laugh in the world. Changing the subject, Leni brings out a gift box she recieved from Hazeltucky, wishing her a speedy recovery; upon opening it, she is treated to a boxing glove impact to the face. Seeing an even *more* injured Leni agonizing on the floor, an outraged Luan re-declares war against Hazeltucky. She puts Mr. Coconuts in her closet for safekeeping, grabs all her prank gear, paints her face like a jester, tells her parents "If I don't come back, tell everyone I went out doing what I love!" and sets off on her unicycle. Rita and Lynn Sr. give each other a smug look, knowing what's coming.
*Cut to Hazeltucky City Hall*
In her office, Joyce Crandall is gleefully watching on a wall covered in video monitors as her minions wreak chaos and destruction all throughout Royal Woods. Suddenly, all the Hazeltucky pranksters are yanked out of view, much to her confusion. Then, all the monitors change to show Luan's face, telling Joyce to leave Royal Woods alone or suffer "The Ultimate Prank" Joyce laughs at her, saying that *she* is the ultimate prankster and that Luan's precious little town will soon be all gone. Luan is like "Then I hope this will en*lighten* you!" and suddenly, the whole building begins rumbling and launches off the ground like a rocket. Joyce looks out the window in horror as the Earth dissappears from view. Luan asks if she's ready to surrender. Joyce refuses, then, the whole building crumbles into dust, leaving Joyce zipping though space toward the Sun. The Sun then morphs into Luan's face, which sings a creepy little rhyme and cackles evilly as her appearance becomes more and more grotesque. Joyce finally agrees to leave Royal Woods alone forever as she is about to be consumed by the Luan-Sun, but upon opening her eyes, realizes that she's still in her office on Earth, with Luan standing at her feet. Luan reveals that she used Lisa's hologram generator to create the scene. She reminds Joyce of her promise to leave Royal Woods in peace forever, and adds that she and Hazeltucky must rebuild *everything* they damaged. Joyce initially refuses, but quickly changes her tune when Luan threatens to re-start the hologram.
*Transition*
As the defeated Hazeltucky citizens clean and rebuild Royal Woods, everyone gathers at City Hall to celebrate Luan for saving the day. Luan gives a small speech, saying something along the lines of "Pranks might be my love language, but that doesn't mean I can't use them to protect the people I love." and with that, everyone cheers as she mounts her unicycle and rides off (but not before administering a pair of cream pies to Lincoln and Lynn Jr.'s faces.)
As everyone disperses, Rita and Lynn Sr. wheel the battered Leni back to the hospital. They thank her for faking a prank from Hazeltucky on herself in order to get Luan back into pranking to save Royal Woods. Leni replies with "There *is* more to my head than just air, you know!"
(The End)
