Taking a vacation to Denver in a little under 2 weeks half fun time half fishing time. Mostly going to be fishing smaller blue lines in the rmnp/granby area. I’m looking for some fly recs to be prepping since I won’t be able to take much (if any) tying stuff.
So far I’ve got a lot of Sz 10 chubs, 12 hippy stompers, 14 galactic ants
Then some other tried and trues in various sizes. Caddis, parachute, etc. my nymphs are pretty full aside from tying a few more stones.
What am I missing for mid August?
Hoppers and poppers all day long.
I believe this to be one of the furthest upstream population off coosa red eyes in existence. Long after it looses its name. And again. Just before trout take over. An Alabama spot wasn’t even seen all day.
Alarm at 3:30. Pick up friend. Stream at 7. Bike 5 miles up a closed gravel road until the stream leaves the road. And fish up from there. We were well within a slam water but I had no idea what was coming. Enjoy. Big brown was in a thigh deep hole waiting for a black jig streamer. Definitely a brook trout eater! Great bag of mixed species
And some beautiful brookies. Water was 60-62.8
Bows out of the main body, snd brookies out of a small trib. Swapped to the tenkara rod for the hiking obviously.
Spent the day chasing brookies a few weeks ago. Found mixed species low, brookies high and some darn good ones at that. NC
Streamers found while sorting through.
Took a random Thursday free to trounce around in the smokies. Packed a rain jacket and a sandwich and went to work. Snatched 92 with a good mix of rainbows and browns. Never found the bigger fish I was hoping for but had no shortage of bites.
Also dropped my phone in a riffle and spent an hour plus looking for it before finally giving up, putting my clothes ans packs back on snd looking down to see it sticking pit from s rock at my feet.
Went on a trip with my wife yesterday that turned into a slam for both of us. Of course we caught rainbows, and then when she caught a brown, our focus switched to getting her a slam. We fished some terrible to navigate water before finding a good hole for her to find the brookie. I snatched one real quick and We made our way back down to the main stem finishing the day. We were catching more bows and I lucked up and found a brown making it a single day wild slam for the both of us. Great birthday trip! If you’re wondering which ones are hers, the big ones. Bonus round: I caught the exact same brown trout about a month ago, in the same exact hole.
